The 7 Best Bánh Mì Shops in Hội An, Ranked (2026 Guide)
From the Bourdain-famous counter on Phan Châu Trinh to a charcoal-toasted street stall locals queue at before work: where to eat bánh mì in Hội An, what to order, and what it costs in 2026.
By VietnamRanker Editorial·

Hội An is the one town in Vietnam where people plan whole mornings around a sandwich. The local bánh mì is different from the Saigon version: the baguette is shorter and crackly-thin, the pâté is richer, and almost every shop builds its reputation on a house sauce you won't find anywhere else.
We ranked the shops below on four things: the bread (crust and freshness), the fillings and sauce, consistency across years of reviews, and value. Prices and hours were last checked in October 2026 and can change, so treat them as a guide.
Note: Since the July 2025 administrative merger, Hội An belongs to Đà Nẵng City. Addresses below still use the familiar Hội An street names.

1. Bánh Mì Phượng
- Address: 2B Phan Châu Trinh, Old Town
- Hours: 6:30am–9:00pm daily (as posted at the shop)
- Order: Bánh mì thập cẩm / đặc biệt (the "special", with mixed pork, ham, pâté and sausage)
Anthony Bourdain called Phượng's sandwich "a symphony in a sandwich," and the shop has been busy ever since. Fame alone wouldn't keep it at number one, though. The bread is baked to order in batches, the pâté and the dark, peppery house sauce are well balanced, and the assembly line behind the counter is so fast that even a long queue moves in a few minutes.
Why it ranks #1: It is still the most complete bánh mì in town, and it is consistent. Downside: It's crowded from mid-morning, and seating is cramped. Go before 8am or after 2pm.
2. Madam Khánh – The Bánh Mì Queen
- Address: 115 Trần Cao Vân, just north of the Old Town
- Hours: around 7:00am until early evening or until sold out
- Order: The mixed bánh mì (pork, chicken, egg, pâté) with extra sauce
Madam Khánh has made bánh mì on this corner for more than 30 years. Her sandwiches are the wettest and sauciest in Hội An, with house pickles and a sweet-savoury sauce that soaks into the crumb. Many repeat visitors prefer it to Phượng. The shop is quieter, there's an English menu, and the staff are used to first-timers.
Why it ranks #2: It equals Phượng on flavour and is more relaxed. Downside: The wetter style softens the crust if you take it away.
3. Bánh Mì Phi
- Address: 88 Thái Phiên, Cẩm Phô
- Hours: about 8:00am–8:00pm
- Order: Five-spice braised pork belly with pâté and sausage. Ask for avocado if you want it creamier.
Phi opened in 2013, which makes it young by Hội An standards, but its five-spice pork belly quickly became its signature. It is the most flexible shop on this list: there are vegetarian options, add-ons, and staff who are happy to adjust a sandwich.
Why it ranks #3: It has the best single filling in town and is easy for visitors. Downside: It's a short walk west of the main Old Town streets.
4. Bánh Mì Lành
- Address: 430 Cửa Đại (on the road toward An Bàng and Cửa Đại beaches)
- Hours: early morning, roughly 6:00am to late morning (some sources list later hours)
- Order: Char siu pork bánh mì
This is the stall locals send you to. Lành reheats every baguette over a small charcoal chimney, which gives the crust a smoky crunch that oven-warmed bread can't match. The pâté is often described as the creamiest in Hội An.
Why it ranks #4: The best bread on this list for the price. Downside: It's an unmarked stall with limited English and early hours, so plan it for breakfast on the way to the beach.
5. Bánh Mì Mr Hiếu
- Address: 644 Hai Bà Trưng
- Hours: about 7:00am–8:00pm
- Order: Chicken bánh mì, finished with chicken jus. The egg version with fresh mint is also good.
Mr Hiếu built a following near the central market before moving to Hai Bà Trưng. Compared with the pâté-heavy shops above, his chicken bánh mì is lighter and fresher.
Why it ranks #5: It's the best non-pork option. Downside: It's less central than before the move.
6. Bánh Mì Bà Bưa
- Address: 117 Nguyễn Trường Tộ
- Hours: about 7:00am–8:00pm
- Order: Bánh mì with a side of savoury sticky rice
Bà Bưa serves sticky rice (xôi) in a bowl next to the sandwich, so you can stuff it into the bread or eat it separately. The loaves are larger than usual, and this is the most filling breakfast on the list.
Why it ranks #6: Unusual, cheap and very local. Downside: It's a simpler sandwich than the top three.
7. Bánh Mì Chay (vegetarian stall)
- Address: Corner of Phan Châu Trinh and Nguyễn Huệ (around 3 Nguyễn Huệ)
- Hours: mornings only, roughly 6:30am–10:00am, until sold out
- Order: Stir-fried mushrooms, marinated tofu, cabbage and crushed peanuts
This is a small morning stall and the easiest fully vegetarian bánh mì in the Old Town. The homemade sauce makes it.
Why it makes the list: Vegetarians shouldn't miss out on Hội An's sandwich. Downside: It's only open in the morning, and the owner speaks little English. Pointing works fine.
Practical tips
- Go early. Bread is best in the morning, and the small stalls sell out.
- Ask for chilli on the side (ớt riêng) if you're unsure. Hội An chilli sauce is hot.
- Bring small notes. Most stalls are cash-only, and a 500,000 VND note at 7am won't make you friends.
- Do a crawl. Phượng, Phi and Madam Khánh are all within about 15 minutes' walk of each other. Order one sandwich at each and split them.
